The “art” of simulation

August 2, 2012

A student of mine named Larry Muhlstein has been investigating spike-time reliability with stochastic neuron models. He often looks at heatmap plots of reliability as a function of certain parameters, as was done in Brette and Guigon (2003). Some of these plots end up having aesthetic qualities that we quite enjoy. For example, Larry created the following image while trying to reproduce some results from Brette and Guigon (2003). It is a plot of spike-time reliability as a function of stimulus amplitude (vertical axis) and time (horizontal axis). It is titled “Walking Round”.
